File Sharing

SiteSucker allows you to transfer downloaded sites and SiteSucker documents between your computer and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This can be done using AirDrop, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or iTunes File Sharing. Procedures for transferring files are shown below.

Note: These procedures assume that you are using SiteSucker for OS X version 2.8.x and SiteSucker for iOS version 2.5.x. If you are using another version of the software, consult its manual since its procedures may be different.

When transferring downloaded sites, you should always transfer the top level folders individually. These folders have names like www.site.com or host.org.

Using AirDrop

To set up AirDrop on your Macintosh computer:

1. Choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder. An AirDrop window opens. If Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is turned off, you'll see a button to turn it on. AirDrop turns on automatically when Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on.
2. AirDrop lets you choose between enabling it for just your contacts or for everyone. "Contacts" requires more work, as your computer and iOS device both have to be logged into iCloud and be in each other's Contacts. "Everyone" is easier but means random people you don't know can send you prank AirDrops. Use the “Allow me to be discovered by” setting at the bottom of the AirDrop window to choose the option you want.

To set up AirDrop on your iOS device:

1. Open Control Center.
2. Tap AirDrop, then choose whether to receive items from everyone or only from people in your Contacts app.

Transferring Downloads

To transfer downloaded sites from your computer to your iOS device using AirDrop:

1. Create a zip archive of the top level folder of each site that you want to transfer.
2. In the Finder, open a new window and choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar.
3. Drag the zip archives to the recipient's image in the AirDrop window.
4. On your iOS device, accept the files and select SiteSucker as the app to open the files.

To transfer downloaded sites from your iOS device to your computer using AirDrop:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a zip archive in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap the name of the AirDrop recipient.
6. On your Macintosh, accept the file and it will be saved in your Downloads folder.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each site that you would like to transfer.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.

Transferring Documents

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your computer to your iOS device using AirDrop:

1. In the Finder, open a new window and choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar.
2. Drag the SiteSucker documents that you want to transfer to the recipient's image in the AirDrop window.
3. On your iOS device, accept the files.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your iOS device to your computer using AirDrop:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a document in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap the name of the AirDrop recipient.
6. On your Macintosh, accept the file and it will be saved in your Downloads folder.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to transfer.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.

Using iCloud Drive

To transfer files using iCloud Drive, you must be running OS X 10.10 Yosemite and iOS 8. Before you can transfer files, iCloud Drive must be enabled. This can be done in the Settings app on your iOS device and in the System Preferences on your Macintosh.

Transferring Downloads

To transfer downloaded sites from your computer to your iOS device using iCloud Drive:

1. Create a zip archive of the top level folder of each site that you want to transfer.
2. Drag the zip archives to the iCloud Drive folder on your Macintosh.
3. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
4. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
5. Tap in the toolbar.
6. In the document picker, tap on a zip archive to import it.
7. Repeat the previous two steps for each site that you would like to import.
8. When you are done importing sites, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer downloaded sites from your iOS device to your computer using iCloud Drive:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a zip archive in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Export.
6. In the document picker, select a location, and tap Export to this location to export it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each site that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the iCloud Drive folder on your Macintosh, drag them to their final destination, and open each one to extract their contents. The zip archives can then be deleted.

Transferring Documents

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your computer to your iOS device using iCloud Drive:

1. Drag the SiteSucker documents that you want to transfer to the iCloud Drive folder on your Macintosh.
2. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
3. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
4. Tap in the toolbar.
5. Tap Import from iCloud in the action sheet.
6. In the document picker, tap on a SiteSucker document to import it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to import.
8. When you are done importing documents, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your iOS device to your computer using iCloud Drive:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a document in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Export.
6. In the document picker, select a location, and tap Export to this location to export it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the iCloud Drive folder on your Macintosh, drag them to their final destination.

Using Dropbox

Before transferring files using Dropbox:

• Install Dropbox on your computer.
• Install the Dropbox app on your iOS device.
• Enable Dropbox in the document picker by tapping Locations > More and then turn on the option for Dropbox.
• Enable the Save to Dropbox option in that Share menu by tapping More and then turning on the option.

Note: If Dropbox is enabled in the document picker and iCloud Drive is disabled in the Settings app, Dropbox will appear by default in the document picker without needing to choose it in the Locations action sheet.

There are two ways to transfer files using Dropbox. One uses the document picker and the other uses the Dropbox app. Both methods are discussed below.

Transferring Downloads

To transfer downloaded sites from your computer to your iOS device using Dropbox and the document picker:

1. Create a zip archive of the top level folder of each site that you want to transfer.
2. Drag the zip archives to the Dropbox folder on your computer.
3. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
4. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
5. Tap in the toolbar.
6. In the document picker, tap Locations > Dropbox and then tap on a zip archive to import it.
7. Repeat the previous two steps for each site that you would like to import.
8. When you are done importing sites, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer downloaded sites from your iOS device to your computer using Dropbox and the document picker:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a zip archive in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Export.
6. In the document picker, tap Locations > Dropbox, select a location, and tap Save to "location" to export it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each site that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the Dropbox folder on your computer, drag them to their final destination, and open each one to extract their contents. The zip archives can then be deleted.

To transfer downloaded sites from your computer to your iOS device using the Dropbox app:

1. Create a zip archive of the top level folder of each site that you want to transfer.
2. Drag the zip archives to the Dropbox folder on your computer.
3. Open the Dropbox app on your iOS device.
4. Select an archive that you want to transfer and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Open in... and then Open in SiteSucker. The SiteSucker app is opened and the transferred item is shown in the Downloads screen.
6. Repeat the previous three steps for each site that you would like to import.

To transfer downloaded sites from your iOS device to your computer using the Dropbox app:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a zip archive in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Save to Dropbox.
6. In the Save to Dropbox screen, choose a location and tap Save.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each site that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the Dropbox folder on your computer, drag them to their final destination, and open each one to extract their contents. The zip archives can then be deleted.

Transferring Documents

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your computer to your iOS device using Dropbox and the document picker:

1. Drag the SiteSucker documents that you want to transfer to the Dropbox folder on your Macintosh.
2. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
3. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
4. Tap in the toolbar.
5. Tap Import from iCloud in the action sheet.
6. In the document picker, tap Locations > Dropbox and then tap on a SiteSucker document to import it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to import.
8. When you are done importing documents, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your iOS device to your computer using Dropbox and the document picker:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a document in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Export.
6. In the document picker, tap Locations > Dropbox, select a location, and tap Save to "location" to export it.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the Dropbox folder on your Macintosh, drag them to their final destination.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your computer to your iOS device using the Dropbox app:

1. Drag the SiteSucker documents that you want to transfer to the Dropbox folder on your Macintosh.
2. Open the Dropbox app on your iOS device.
3. Select a SiteSucker document that you want to transfer and tap the button.
4. In the Share menu, tap Open in... and then Open in SiteSucker. The SiteSucker app is opened and the transferred item is shown in the Documents screen.
5. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to import.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your iOS device to your computer using the Dropbox app:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. Select a document in the Exports screen and tap the button.
5. In the Share menu, tap Save to Dropbox.
6. In the Save to Dropbox screen, choose a location and tap Save.
7. Repeat the previous three steps for each document that you would like to export.
8. Tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
9. When all exported items appear in the Dropbox folder on your Macintosh, drag them to their final destination.

Using iTunes File Sharing

Before transferring files using iTunes File Sharing:

1. Connect your iOS device to your computer.
2. Launch iTunes on your computer.
3. In iTunes, select your iOS device, click the Apps tab, and select SiteSucker from the list of apps under File Sharing.

Transferring Downloads

To transfer downloaded sites from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes File Sharing:

1. Create a zip archive of the top level folder of each site that you want to transfer.
2. Click the Add button under the SiteSucker Documents list in iTunes, select the zip archives to transfer, and click Add.
3. When all the transferred items appear in the SiteSucker Documents list, launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
4. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
5. Tap in the toolbar.
6. Tap Import from iTunes in the action sheet.
7. When all imported items are displayed in the Downloads screen, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer downloaded sites from your iOS device to your computer using iTunes File Sharing:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Downloads screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. When all items have been exported, select them in the SiteSucker Documents list in iTunes, click the Save to button under the list, select the destination where you want to save the items, and click Save To.
5. In the Finder, open each item to extract their contents. The zip archives can then be deleted.
6. On your iOS device, tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.

Transferring Documents

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes File Sharing:

1. Click the Add button under the SiteSucker Documents list in iTunes, select the SiteSucker documents to transfer, and click Add.
2. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
3. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
4. Tap in the toolbar.
5. Tap Import from iTunes in the action sheet.
6. When all imported items are displayed in the Documents screen, tap Done to finish editing.

To transfer SiteSucker documents from your iOS device to your computer using iTunes File Sharing:

1. Launch SiteSucker on your iOS device.
2. Select the Documents screen and tap Edit.
3. Select the items you want to export and tap in the toolbar. This displays the Exports screen, which lists all exported items.
4. When all items have been exported, select them in the SiteSucker Documents list in iTunes, click the Save to button under the list, select the destination where you want to save the items, and click Save To.
5. On your iOS device, tap Done to close the Exports screen, and then tap Done again to finish editing.
