Overview
SiteSucker is an iOS app that automatically downloads websites from the Internet. It does this by copying the site's webpages, style sheets, images, backgrounds, movies, and other files to your iOS device, duplicating the site's directory structure. SiteSucker "localizes" the pages it downloads, allowing you to browse a site while offline.
This manual contains images of SiteSucker running on an iPhone, but the same instructions apply whether you've installed SiteSucker on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
To start downloading a site:
- Select the SiteSucker screen of the SiteSucker app.
- Tap the Web URL text field.
- Enter an Internet address into the text field.
- Tap the Go button on the keyboard and SiteSucker will go to work.
To download a site that you previously downloaded:
- Tap the Web URL text field.
- Tap on one of the ten most recently used URLs listed below the text field.
If the Web URL text field already contains the address of the site you want to download, just tap the Go button to start the download. SiteSucker will download the page, scan it for any links, and download the links.
To download a password protected site, SiteSucker provides a browser that allows you to log into the site before starting the download. To display a webpage using the browser:
- Enter an Internet address into the text field.
- Tap the Browser button in the toolbar above the keyboard.
To display a previously downloaded site in the browser, touch and hold one of the recently used URLs listed below the text field. If the Web URL text field already contains the address of the site you want, just touch and hold the Go button to display the site in the browser.
You can use the browser to submit forms (including logins to password-protected sites) or to navigate to a particular webpage before starting the download. When the page you want to download is displayed, tap the Go button to start the download. (The Go button is only enabled if the current page is HTML.)
The status of the download is shown in the middle of the SiteSucker screen. When SiteSucker exhausts all links, it stops automatically. To stop the download manually, tap the Stop button in the toolbar. You can suspend a download by tapping the Pause button and continue downloading by tapping the Resume button.
If SiteSucker is in the middle of a download when you exit the app, SiteSucker will pause the download. When you launch the app later, SiteSucker will resume the download from where it left off. When the download is finished, select the Downloads screen to access the downloaded site.
The Settings screen allows you to tailor the download by specifying the logging options, file limits, allowed paths, permitted file types, etc.
SiteSucker lets you save the Web URL and settings in a document which you can use to perform the same download whenever you want.
Finally, SiteSucker allows you to transfer downloaded sites between your iOS device and your Macintosh or PC using iTunes File Sharing or Dropbox.
