URL Text Field

The URL text field in the SiteSucker window will accept any valid URL that begins with one of the following:

  • http://
  • https://
  • file://

Characters in the URL should be UTF-8 encoded. If you enter a file URL (i.e., a URL beginning with “file://”), it must reference an HTML or CSS file stored locally. (See Using a Local File for more information.) If you enter a URL that doesn’t include “://”, SiteSucker will automatically add “http://” to the beginning of the string.

Here are several ways to enter a URL into the URL text field of the frontmost window:

  • Type an address into the URL text field.
  • Choose an address in the History menu.
  • Choose a bookmark in the Bookmarks menu.
  • Copy a URL from your web browser and paste it into the URL text field.
  • Drag a URL from your web browser into the URL text field.
  • Copy one or more URL strings (each separated with a return) from a text document and paste the selection into the URL text field.
  • Drag one or more URL strings (each separated with a return) from a text document into the URL text field.
  • Drag one or more HTML or CSS files into the URL text field.
  • Drag a web internet location file into the URL text field. (A web internet location file can be created by dragging the URL address from your web browser to your desktop.)

After dragging a URL or file into the URL text field, the download will start automatically if the Drag triggers download option is on in the Preferences.

Here are several ways to enter a URL into the URL text field of the frontmost window (or into a new window if none exists) and automatically download the URL:

  • Drag a URL from your web browser onto the SiteSucker icon in the Dock or in the Finder.
  • Drag one or more web internet location files onto the SiteSucker icon in the Dock or in the Finder.
  • Drag a plain text file containing one or more URL strings (each separated with a return) onto the SiteSucker icon in the Dock or in the Finder.
  • Choose Download with SiteSucker from the Services submenu in a web browser to send the selected URL to SiteSucker.
  • Choose FileShareSiteSucker in a web browser to send the URL of the current page to SiteSucker. (If you don’t see SiteSucker in the menu, you can add it using the Extensions pane of the System Preferences.)

If you enter a URL while SiteSucker is busy downloading another site, the URL that you entered will be added to the document’s queue. Similarly, if you copy or drag more than one URL to SiteSucker, the first URL will be entered in the URL text field and the rest will be added to the queue.

In addition, you can select the text in the URL text field and drag it from SiteSucker to another application, such as a web browser. If you drag the text to the Finder, it will create a web internet location file.
